Kabogo Backs Plan to Digitise Building Approvals in New Push to Fix City Planning

The government is planning to move key building approval services online in a bid to improve how towns and cities are managed.

ICT Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo met officials from the Architectural Association of Kenya (AAK) at the ministry offices, where they discussed a proposal to digitise how development control is handled in the country.

The team, led by AAK President George Ndege, presented a plan that would bring services like land approvals, building permits, inspections and compliance checks into one system.

If adopted, the system is expected to make the process faster and more open, with applications being handled within set timelines and clear feedback given to applicants.

The authorities point out that this is not only a matter of technological development but of creating better conditions for living and doing business in cities.

Kenyan towns are expanding rapidly, and more people are expected to be attracted by the cities in future years. Hence, it makes it even more critical for the changes to take place.

This idea was appreciated by Kabogo, who stated that the ministry will collaborate with various governmental bodies to help implement this proposal.

Among those present at the meeting were AAK Vice-President Brenda Nyawara and other representatives of both organizations.
