Former Meru governor Kiraitu Murungi is mourning the death of his daughter, Anita Kendi Kiraitu, who passed away after a short illness.
The heartbreaking news sparked an outpouring of condolence messages from leaders, friends and Kenyans across the country, who took to social media to comfort the veteran politician and his family during the difficult period.
President William Ruto joined other leaders in mourning Anita, describing her death as a painful loss to the family.
President Ruto mourns Kiraitu Murungi’s daughter
In a message shared on his social media platforms, Ruto said:
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to former Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi and his family following the untimely passing of his daughter, Anita Kendi Murungi. The loss of a child, especially one so young, bright, and full of promise, is a profound tragedy that leaves an immeasurable void. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Murungi family during this difficult time. May they find strength in the support of family, friends, and all those mourning with them.”
Political figure Michael Makarina also expressed sorrow over Anita’s death in an emotional tribute.
“It is with deep sorrow that I have learnt of the passing of Anita Kendi Murungi, the last-born daughter of former Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi, following a short illness,” he said.
Makarina further conveyed his condolences to the family, adding:
“I extend my heartfelt condolences to Kiraitu Murungi, Priscilla and the entire family during this difficult and painful time. May God grant you strength, comfort and peace, and may Anita’s soul rest in eternal peace.”
Meru governor Isaac Mutuma also comforted the grieving family, acknowledging the pain they were going through.
“Losing a daughter is a loss no parent is ever prepared for, and my thoughts and prayers are with them as they grieve,” he wrote.
Former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua, together with his wife Dorcas Rigathi, also sent a condolence message to Kiraitu.
“We are truly sorry for the loss of your daughter…We place you and your family in our prayers. May the Lord God give you strength and comfort,” Gachagua said.
The Murungi family has not yet announced Anita’s burial and funeral arrangements.
