The government has unveiled new measures aimed at boosting earnings for Kenya’s creative industry, including a proposed law to formalise funding and expand monetisation opportunities for artists and digital content creators.
Head of Presidential Special Projects and Creative Economy Dennis Itumbi said a recent report by OdipoDev shows that top Kenyan content creators are now earning up to Sh57 million from social media platforms, with Instagram and Facebook emerging as the highest revenue channels.
He attributed the growth to government-led negotiations that enabled monetisation of Meta platforms in Kenya, opening new income streams for digital creators.
“When this government took over, the president personally negotiated with Meta and monetization was introduced for Meta products,” Itumbi said during a Citizen Tv interview.
He further revealed that the Creative Economy Bill 2026 is currently before Parliament, and seeks to establish a dedicated fund for creatives, which he said has never existed before in the country.
