The the head of Presidential Special Projects and Creative Economy Coordination Denis Itumbi on Tuesday during NTV interview revealed that a criminal enterprise individuals have infiltrated the collection of music royalties in Kenya.

He said that the government is solving the issue by introducing the collection of revenues through e-Citizen platform.

“We have had criminal enterprises involved in the collection of music royalties in Kenya. We are correcting that by introducing payment of royalties through e-Citizen, ‘he revealed.

He noted that the Kenyan music market is worth an average of Sh3 billion in royalties if its well utilized.

He added that its shameful that we have an artist who earned Sh1,200 for a whole year and a CMO who earned about about Sh6 million the whole year.

Itumbi argued that the introduction of the e-citizens platform to collect the revenue will help to improve the lives of artists.
