Elders from Mbeere North have thrown their weight behind a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate in the forthcoming parliamentary by-election for the constituency.

In a major gathering held at Siakago Girls’ Grounds in Embu County, over 5,600 elders from across Mbeere North convened under the banner of the “5600 Elders Baraza” to deliberate on the region’s political and development agenda.

United in purpose, the elders pledged full support for the ruling party and committed to mobilizing the community in favor of a pro-government candidate.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, who attended the assembly, commended the elders for their unity and dedication.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to a free and fair electoral process, assuring the community that the by-election would proceed without interference.

However, Kindiki also urged Mbeere residents to support the UDA candidate, noting that continued alignment with the government would accelerate development in the region.

The by-election follows the appointment of the area’s Member of Parliament, Geoffrey Ruku, as Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Human Capital Development, and Special Programmes—a move that has been warmly received by the Mbeere community, who view it as a significant milestone in national representation.

So far, eight aspirants have expressed interest in vying for the UDA ticket.

While the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has yet to announce the official by-election date, political momentum is already building, with Mbeere North elders playing a central role in charting the constituency’s future.
