Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (KEMSA) Chairperson Irungu Nyakera has been removed from his position just under a year after his appointment.

In a Gazette Notice dated August 22, former Narok Governor Samuel Tunai has been appointed as Nyakera’s replacement.

Nyakera, who also serves as the patron of the Farmers’ Party, was appointed to lead KEMSA on May 15, 2023, with a term slated to last three years.

The notice reads in part, “In exercise of the powers conferred by section 5 (1) (a) of the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority Act, as read together with section 51 (1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act, I…appoint Samuel Tunai as the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority.”

Tunai’s appointment will take effect on August 23, 2024, and he is expected to serve for a three-year term.

President Ruto also revoked Nyakera’s appointment, but he has been reassigned as the Chairperson of the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), where he will serve for three years.

The appointment of Adelina Mwau, the former Makueni Deputy Governor, as KICC Chairperson has also been revoked. Mwau was appointed on April 19, 2023, with a three-year term.
