Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has announced that the tarmacking of the now-famous Isiolo-Mandera Road launched by President William Ruto during his development tour of the North-Eastern region has begun.

The road went viral on social media, with a section of Kenyans creating memes over it after President Ruto waxed lyrical while announcing its construction. They made fun of the president’s mastery of North Eastern roads.

"Ndio barabara itoke Mandera, ikuje Ramu, ikuje Garre, ikuje El-Wak, ikuje Kobo, ikuje pale Kotulo, ikuje Tarbat, ipitie hapa Wajir, iende Samatan, iteremke Modogashe, ifike Isiolo..." President Ruto said before Kenyans made jests over the announcement.

However, speaking on Tuesday, Kindiki regretted that Kenyans mocking President Ruto over the road are not aware that its construction has begun.

The deputy president said 11 contractors are already on the ground constructing the stretch, which is expected to be complete in less than two and a half years.

"I saw some people making fun of the long Isiolo-Mandera Road that the president was explaining. The government is going to construct that road in the next 2 and a half years. There are 11 contractors on the ground as we speak, each with a stretch of about 100km, some sections are already 40% or 50% tarmacked," said Kindiki.

The DP said that come 2027, the president will shame his critics by unveiling the road.
