Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has unveiled plans to conduct the next police recruitment process entirely online, signaling the government’s commitment to an e-government transformation.

Speaking before the Senate Standing Committee on National Security, Kanja explained that the move is part of a larger strategy to streamline Kenya’s public service delivery, using technology to reduce inefficiencies, improve transparency, and curb corruption.

“This digital recruitment portal is just the beginning,” Kanja said. “It represents the first of many initiatives aimed at modernizing our services and ensuring a merit-based approach, not just in the police service but across government institutions.”

The shift to online recruitment aims to eliminate the long-standing issues of bribery and unfair selection practices that have marred police hiring in the past.

Kanja also expressed confidence that the digital approach will ensure more equitable gender representation and wider access, particularly for women from rural areas, addressing calls for greater diversity within the service.

Additionally, this digital move is in line with Kenya’s broader strategy of adopting technology to enhance public services, improve governance, and reduce corruption—goals that are central to President Ruto’s vision for an accountable and efficient government.
