Residents in Rockline village in Kiambu County were left in disbelief with the passing of a middle-aged man who is thought to have taken his own life.
Reportedly, the neighbours got suspicious when they detected a foul smell coming from the deceased’s house and alerted the authorities and other residents of the locality.
After the police and local leaders came to the scene, the body was confirmed to be in the house. The deceased, a businessman in that line of work, was unemployed in the area and his neighbours assumption is that the reason for his depression is tied to the loss of his job.
According to them, he was a quiet and diligent person who had, in recent weeks, completely shut himself off from others.
The tragic death has raised the issue of mental health that is increasingly a problem especially among those who suffer from economic hardship and joblessness.
Both area officials and dwellers have appealed to anyone who is encountering difficulties to to seek help from trusted family members, friends, religious leaders, or professional counsellors instead of trying to endure their sufferings in silence.
