Inspector General of the National Police Service (NPS) and President of AFRIPOL, Mr. Douglas Kanja, today hosted a high-level delegation from AFRIPOL and representatives from the German Federal Police and German Embassy at NPS Headquarters in Nairobi.
The meeting focused on enhancing cooperation in key areas such as cybersecurity, counter-terrorism, and transnational organized crime.
IG Kanja praised the long-standing partnership with the German Federal Police, citing successful joint initiatives in training and capacity building that have improved the NPS’s ability to respond to emerging threats and support digital transformation.
“The partnership continues to be instrumental in equipping our officers with modern skills and tools to tackle sophisticated crimes in an evolving digital landscape,” Kanja noted.
Representing the German delegation, Mr. Stefan Koch emphasized the value of the meeting in laying the groundwork for future collaborations that extend beyond Kenya to benefit the broader region.
He stressed the importance of regular engagements and stronger networks to combat cross-border criminal threats.
Director of Criminal Investigations, Mr. Mohamed Amin, welcomed the deepening collaboration, particularly in digital forensics, saying it would greatly enhance DCI’s capacity to investigate complex crimes, including cybercrime and homicide.
The AFRIPOL delegation was led by Executive Director Amb. Jalel Chelba, and included Dr. Benaired Mohamed, Head of Training and Capacity Building.
Also in attendance were senior officials from the German Federal Police, including Ms. Stephanie Preuss, Ms. Doris Laube, Mr. Sebastian Schulte, Mr. Zafer El-Mokdad, and Mr. Gabriel Stracker.
From the Kenyan side, the meeting included senior officials from the NPS, DCI, and Directorate of Planning, reflecting the broad commitment to security cooperation and institutional reform.
The engagement underscored the importance of international collaboration in enhancing law enforcement capabilities and addressing transnational threats through shared expertise and coordinated action.
