The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has released official details ahead of the by-elections set for November 27, 2025, as it moves into the final stretch of preparations.
In the gazette notice on Friday, October 31, the commission listed all nominated candidates, polling stations and tallying centres for the mini-polls.
It also listed places where elections will not be held because candidates are unopposed.
According to IEBC, there will be no voting in Mitkei and Tembelio wards since the only nominated candidates in those areas were declared elected without opposition.
The commission said the decision aligns with the electoral law and helps avoid unnecessary polls where there is no contest.
“The Commission has published the requisite Gazette Notices as it prepares for the by-elections scheduled for Thursday, November 27, 2025,” part of the statement read.
“The notices provide information on the list of nominated candidates, declaration of no contest for Mitkei and Tembelio wards, and the designated polling and tallying centres.”
IEBC further reminded political parties and candidates to adhere to the Electoral Code of Conduct and ensure peace and transparency throughout the campaigns.
UDA Candidates Go Unopposed
The statement comes just a day after the commission dismissed a fake gazette notice circulating on social media.
In the forged document, IEBC was purportedly announcing winners for the by-elections slated for November.
It alleged that two UDA candidates, who had been vying for the Member of County Assembly seats in Tembelio and Metkei wards, were declared elected unopposed.
IEBC, however, clarified on October 24 through a statement that no such declaration had been made and cautioned the public against spreading unverified information.
It said that only gazette notices through its official platforms should be treated as authentic.
With the official list now out, the IEBC says it is focused on ensuring a smooth and credible mini-poll later this month.
