The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has issued a warning regarding the existence of fake job advertisements being posted online, exploiting Kenyans seeking jobs.
These advertisements, mostly found through social media, tout that the IEBC is recruiting employees and encourages people to click on unfamiliar links to apply for these jobs. According to IEBC, these advertisements are actually false.
According to officials, at least four different fake notifications have been noticed. Some claim polling clerks and assistants are being hired, while others state vaguely that there are vacancies across the country without elaborating on requirements or positions.
One of the misleading communications, for instance, reads:
‘IEBC has opened its application portal and will contact shortlisted candidates via email after submitting online forms’.
IEBC asks that people be careful and not rush into clicking on any linked page or sharing personal info.
The commission says that all legitimate employment vacancy announcements are posted on its official recruitment site, jobs.iebc.or.ke. The commission also cautions that people should purely rely on information obtained from its official website and social media pages under @IEBCKenya.
“The IEBC appeals to all job seekers to be vigilant and avoid using any given job details for applications, especially during this time of the year where many seek jobs,” the IEBC says in its notice.
