Ida Odinga has appeared before the National Assembly’s Departmental Committee on Defence, Intelligence and Foreign Relations for vetting following her nomination as Kenya’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Environment Programme (Unep).
Ida, the wife of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga is expected to face questions from MPs on her academic background, professional experience and readiness to take up the diplomatic role.
The session forms part of the mandatory parliamentary approval process for ambassadorial nominees.
If approved, she will represent Kenya at Unep headquarters in Nairobi, where she will be expected to articulate the country’s position on global environmental matters, including climate change, sustainable development and environmental governance.
