Health Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale has urged pharmacists to play a central role in advancing Kenya’s Universal Health Coverage (UHC) reforms under the Taifa Care program.
Speaking during the opening of the 45th Annual Scientific Conference of the Pharmaceutical Society of Kenya (PSK) on June 18, Duale outlined five key priorities: boosting local pharmaceutical manufacturing, strengthening regulation, digitizing supply chains, improving pharmacovigilance, and integrating pharmacy services into the Social Health Authority’s benefits package.
He announced that 500 intern pharmacists will be deployed from August 1 and that Health Products and Technologies will be elevated to a full directorate. He also cautioned against the rise in counterfeit drugs.
Commending Mombasa County for fully digitizing its health system, Duale called on PSK to champion innovation, accountability, and digital transformation in healthcare delivery.
