Kipipiri MP Wanjiku Muhia on Thursday missed a high-end meeting with President William Ruto and fellow Nyandarua legislators at State House, Nairobi — a move that has stirred political speculation within the Mount Kenya region.

The meeting, convened by the President, focused on the government’s ongoing development agenda in Nyandarua County, including the expansion of JM Kariuki Hospital, the proposed Nyandarua University, and the construction of Ol Kalou Stadium.

It also touched on the electrification of rural areas and the resumption of stalled road projects.

Muhia’s absence was notable, especially as the meeting brought together key leaders from the region to align on government priorities.

On the same day, she reportedly held a separate meeting with other local leaders — an action that political insiders suggest may not have been coincidental.

Her close association with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who has increasingly positioned himself as an alternative political voice in Mount Kenya, has fueled speculation that Muhia’s decision to skip the State House engagement may reflect the growing rift between Ruto loyalists and those leaning toward Gachagua’s influence.

Although Muhia has not issued a formal explanation for her absence, political analysts say her move could be interpreted as a quiet but symbolic statement amid internal tensions within the Kenya Kwanza coalition.
