Harambee Stars is optimistic of victory in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 qualifier match against the giant Cameroon on October 7.

The Kenya national team drew with Zimbabwe in Uganda last Friday but on Tuesday thrashed Namibia 2-1 in South Africa, scaling to the top of Group J.

Cameroon, five times AFCON winners, are second in the group.

The players are now hoping the team captain Michael Olunga will be present as they fight to shine in the match.

Olunga plays as a striker for Qatar Stars League club Al-Duhail.

Harambee Stars coach Engin Firat said they are not afraid of the Indomitable Lions.

“Cameroon should be thinking about how they want to crack us. I’m not afraid of them” Firat was quoted this week.

Stars midfielder Richard Odada said they hope Olunga who missed the last two qualifiers would be available to boost the team as they take on the giant of Central Africa.

“In the Namibia game I am sure he could have scored two or three goals. We are hoping he will be available for the next game,” said Odada.

Group winners and runners-up will qualify for the AFCON 2025 tournament set for Morocco.

The last time Kenya qualified for the continental show was in 2019 in Egypt.
