The national women’s football team, Harambee Starlets, suffered a 1-0 defeat against Chinese Taipei in their opening match of the Pink Ladies Cup at Emirhan Stadium in Turkey on Wednesday.

The match took a turn for the worse in the 18th minute when goalkeeper Annedy Kundu’s mishandled goal kick fell to an opponent in the Kenyan half, resulting in an early goal for Taipei.

The Coach Beldine Odemba’s squad regrouped after halftime, showcasing improved teamwork with precise passing and increased pressure on their rivals.

Lorna Nyabuto came close to equalizing in the 56th minute, but her shot sailed over the bar after she capitalized on a loose ball in the box.

Fasila Adhiambo had the best opportunity for an equalizer shortly after, but she missed an open chance after receiving a through ball from Elizabeth Mutukiza in the 62nd minute.

Mutukiza herself squandered another chance ten minutes later as the Starlets continued to press for a goal.

Despite their persistent efforts, Taipei’s defense remained strong, securing their fourth win in their last six matches.

The Starlets will look to bounce back as they prepare to face Russia on Saturday, followed by a matchup against the Philippines next Wednesday.
