Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir has ordered a thorough investigation into the death of an 81-year-old man at Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital, allegedly after the oxygen supply was switched off for maintenance.
The grieving family claims that their relative died due to an abrupt interruption of oxygen supply, which they argue was a result of hospital negligence. They are demanding accountability from the hospital management, saying the death could have been avoided.
In response, Governor Nassir condoled with the family and assured them that a detailed investigation is underway to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
He emphasized that if negligence is found to have played a role, appropriate action will be taken against those responsible.“Investigations have commenced, and we will not hesitate to act should it be established that negligence contributed to this tragic loss,” said Governor Nassir.
An autopsy is set to be conducted to determine the precise cause of death as the probe continues. The incident has sparked concerns over hospital safety protocols, with many calling for stricter measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
