The government will take decisive action against individuals found culpable in the ongoing probe into alleged human trafficking and organ harvesting in Kenya, Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has said.
Speaking during the commissioning of the newly constructed DCI offices in Machakos County, Murkomen assured the public that investigations are underway and that the Ministry will act based on the findings and recommendations from specialized oversight agencies.
“We will be guided by the report of oversight agencies like the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) and others. Those found culpable will be dealt with according to the law,” said the CS.
The Cabinet Secretary acknowledged that while the Ministry of Interior is seized of the matter, medical practice, especially organ transplant procedures, remains a specialized area under the regulation of designated agencies. He praised Health CS Aden Duale for forming a taskforce to probe the allegations and chart the way forward.
Murkomen confirmed that no official complaints have yet been formally lodged with the ministry. However, he emphasized that should the taskforce or other oversight bodies reveal widespread anomalies, fraud, or malpractice, stringent legal action will be taken regardless of the perpetrators’ social status.
“If specialized agencies reveal transgressions or fraud, the long arm of the law will not spare anyone,” he affirmed.
The CS also touched on broader health security issues, citing recent patient safety concerns at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) and Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH). He disclosed that thorough investigations are ongoing and promised action based on the outcomes.
Highlighting the importance of surveillance, Murkomen urged all health facilities and business premises to install CCTV cameras to enhance security and assist investigations.
He said that once the ongoing investigations are complete, either Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja or DCI Director Amin Mohammed would provide the way forward.
Murkomen was accompanied by Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration, Regional Commissioner Paul Rotich, and other top security officials during the Machakos event.
