The government has disbursed Sh126 million in NYOTA Business Start-Up Capital to 5,040 young entrepreneurs from Lamu, Kilifi and Tana River counties, marking a major boost to youth enterprise development in the Coast region.

The funds were issued during a ceremony in Malindi attended by President William Ruto, Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki, Labour and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary Dr. Alfred Mutua and other senior government officials. The investment is expected to help young entrepreneurs establish and scale their businesses, create jobs and contribute to local and national economic growth.

As the government prepares to roll out the second pillar of the NYOTA program targeting 90,000 young people across Kenya, Labour CS Dr. Alfred Mutua revealed that NYOTA programme is designed to equip youth with practical workplace skills that will make them more competitive in the job market.

“I urge young people from all parts of the country to take advantage of this opportunity to strengthen their employability through hands-on experience and mentorship.” he urged

Under the initiative, beneficiaries will be attached to experienced master craftsmen for a period of six months, during which they will receive a monthly stipend of KSh. 6,000.

Mutua further exlained that the government will fully meet the cost of their training, assessment, and certification to allow beneficiary focus on learning without financial barriers.

Interested applicants urged to register by dialing *254# and selecting the On-the-Job Experience option under the NYOTA project menu.
