The government has signed long-term agreements with eleven fertiliser suppliers to guarantee the year-round availability of this crucial commodity.
Fertiliser for the long rains season will be stocked at outlets nationwide, ensuring that farmers are well-prepared to plant, grow, and produce.
President William Ruto stated that this initiative will not only boost agricultural output but also reduce the country’s dependence on costly food imports, leading to a more self-sufficient and prosperous Kenya.
“This strategy, which is grounded in my administration’s policy of supporting production over subsidising consumption, has already made food more accessible and affordable to households,” President Ruto remarked.
Since February, the government has distributed subsidised fertiliser to 6.45 million registered farmers across 45 counties, enabling them to enhance their crop yields.
This year, the government has procured 7 million bags of planting and top-dressing fertiliser, which have been distributed through e-vouchers to help increase food production nationwide.

“This intervention is projected to increase maize production to a record 74 million 90-kg bags,” President Ruto added.
He further highlighted, “Today, Kenya holds substantial national stocks: 47 million 90-kg bags of maize, 8.8 million bags of beans, 10.4 million bags of wheat, and 2.1 million bags of rice. Step by step, we are building a food-secure Kenya where families can worry less about their next meal.”
