Top government officials have intensified efforts to rally residents of the Mt Kenya region behind President William Ruto’s administration, urging them to support ongoing development initiatives despite growing public concern over the rising cost of living.
At a government sensitisation forum held at Kahuguini Primary School in Gatundu South, senior officials enthralled the audience with the government projects that the region is enjoying as part of the transformation agenda to revitalize the economy and improve people’s welfare.
The gathering was graced by Alice Wahome, the cabinet secretary for Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development, who reiterated government commitment in implementing the Bottom Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) as promised during the campaign.
Besides that, she was accompanied by many Principal Secretaries among them Salome Beacco (Correctional Services) and Mary Muthoni (Public Health) who were highlighting the current and coming activities in their areas.
According to CS Wahome, the government plans to inject more money into the three fundamental areas of infrastructure, housing, and healthcare as a strategy to grow the job market and to improve service delivery. She further added that the Mt. Kenya region will be the biggest beneficiary of the generous initiatives.
“The government is willing to do whatever it takes for development is what every part of this country will be able to see it. Besides delivering affordable housing, we are also working on the way healthcare services will be improved and clean water made more accessible,” she told the audience.
Meanwhile, Public Health Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni confirmed the government’s active role in the modernisation of public health care facilities through the expansion of infrastructure. In contrast, Salome Beacco Corrections Services pointed at rehabilitation and reforming the correctional institutions strategies as a solution to the problem of youth unemployment by engaging them in youth empowerment activities.
The locals were urged to be in the forefront in the implementation of various government initiatives by collaboration with government agencies and competitive utilizing economic opportunities that would come out of it.
Contrarily, some are speculating on how long the lifestyle they are living can be endured thereby resulting in protests over the rising living expenses and slow economic recovery.
Nevertheless, local government officials at the gathering were positive that through these projects, residents will be able to breathe better and reap various economic benefits that will take place in Mt. Kenya region.
