Kenyatta National Hospital marked a new chapter in leadership as Dr. Richard Lesiyampe assumed office as acting Chief Executive Officer, taking over from Dr. Evanson Kamuri who formally transferred the office on Monday.
The takeover was attended by the Principal Secretary for Medical Services, Dr. Ouma Oluga, who also introduced Dr. Abbas Gullet as the new chairman of the hospital board.
On the handover, Dr. Oluga said the leadership change is part of a broader reform process to restore public trust in the country’s largest referral hospital. “KNH carries hope for thousands of Kenyans every day. Good governance and efficient delivery of services are not a want but a necessity,” he asserted.
For both patients and staff, the revamp comes at a time of mounting criticism over the hospital’s provision of services, waiting times, and strained resources.
The new team has been tasked with a mission of streamlining the operations of how the hospital is run and making its clinical services more public-focused.
Dr. Lesiyampe promised to work closely with the board and staff to strengthen operations and keep the hospital a lifeline for the country. “The hospital is less about buildings and machines it is about the patients we serve. We have as our central priority to deliver care with dignity and efficiency,” he added
