Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has spoken out following his dramatic ouster from office, saying the removal gave him a renewed sense of peace and purpose.

Speaking from his rural home in Wamunyoro, Nyeri County, Gachagua likened his return to the village to a fish being returned to water — a place where he says his political journey began and where his mind is sharpest.

“My thinking, planning, my strategy is at its best from here. This is where I was born. All my politics came from here. It’s like taking the fish to water,” Gachagua told Citizen Digital.

The former DP, who was impeached following weeks of political wrangling and accusations from within the Kenya Kwanza coalition, now says he has found joy in the simple things—spending more time with family and reconnecting with his roots.

“If there is one thing hounding me out of office has done, it is giving me back my life. I am actually making lemonade out of lemons,” he remarked.

Mocking those behind his impeachment, Gachagua said the move was meant to humiliate him, but instead it strengthened him. “They sent me to the village thinking it was punishment, but this village—Wamunyoro—has become their worst nightmare,” he said, smiling.

He also reflected on the loyalty of family during difficult times, stating that many friends deserted him after his fall from power.

“In greatness, there are many friends, but in difficult times, family is very important. My immediate family was there for me,” he said.
