Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has launched a Western Kenya tour under the banner of the United Alternative Government, intensifying opposition efforts to build support ahead of the 2027 General Election.

In a statement shared on social media, Gachagua said the tour is aimed at engaging residents of the Western region and understanding the challenges facing communities that he argues have been neglected despite repeated political promises.

The former deputy president accused leaders in government of misleading voters through unfulfilled pledges, claiming that many residents continue to struggle with poverty despite supporting successive administrations.

According to Gachagua, the opposition coalition intends to develop a comprehensive agenda focused on economic empowerment, development and improved livelihoods for the people of Western Kenya.

“Our commitment to the people of Western is to be truthful and resolute as we engage in developing a comprehensive plan to uplift the region and restore hope,” he stated.

The tour comes at a time when opposition leaders are increasingly positioning themselves for the 2027 presidential contest, with coalition-building emerging as a key political strategy.

Gachagua also emphasized the need for opposition unity, pledging to work with like-minded leaders to rally behind a single presidential candidate capable of challenging President William Ruto in the next election.

He described the current administration as a “rogue regime” and expressed confidence that a united opposition front would be able to offer Kenyans an alternative leadership agenda.

Political observers view the Western region as a critical voting bloc whose support could significantly influence the outcome of the 2027 presidential race. The region has increasingly become a battleground for both government and opposition leaders seeking to consolidate support ahead of the polls.

Gachagua said the opposition’s objective is to provide leadership founded on integrity, development and service delivery, arguing that Kenyans are seeking a new political direction as the country approaches the next electoral cycle.
