President William Ruto has appointed former Rarieda MP Nicholas Gumbo as the chairperson of the Kenya Sugar Board for a three-year term, effective from November 22, 2024.

Gumbo, who was previously nominated by Ruto for a position as Chief Administrative Secretary in the Kenya Kwanza government—a nomination that ultimately did not materialize—had been slated for the Ministry of Roads and Transport.

In addition, former Kesses MP Swarup Mishra has been appointed chairperson of the Board of Directors of Kenya Biovax Institute Limited, also for a three-year term starting November 22, 2024.

Mishra, a medical doctor and specialist in obstetrics and gynaecology, has also served as a lecturer in Medicine at Moi University.

Further appointments include five members to represent Kenya on the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) Council.

They are Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi, along with Cabinet Secretaries John Mbadi (National Treasury), Andrew Karanja (Agriculture and Livestock Development), Aden Duale (Environment, Climate Change and Forestry), and Salim Mvurya (Investment, Trade, and Industry).

Economic Partnership Agreements (EPAs) are trade and development agreements negotiated between the EU and countries from Africa, the Caribbean, and the Pacific (ACP).
