Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested five suspected gang members linked to the fatal shooting of a police officer in Nakuru City on Sunday night.

The suspects were captured during a coordinated raid involving the DCI’s Operation Action Team, Crime Research Bureau, and Nakuru-based officers. The gang had been terrorizing residents with firearms and crude weapons in recent weeks.

The arrests followed the deadly ambush on July 1, where gunmen opened fire on a police foot patrol. One officer died at the scene, while two others were seriously injured and are still hospitalized.

An AK-47 rifle, believed to have been used in the attack and other crimes, was recovered hidden in dry grass in the Rhoda area. Police linked the group to several violent robberies, including the murder of a 24-year-old shop owner in Soilo.

The suspects will be arraigned on Tuesday, June 3. Authorities say anti-robbery units remain active in the area, as efforts to dismantle armed gangs continue.
