Directorate of Criminal Investigations detectives have arrested five individuals linked to the brutal murder of Richard Haga Otieno, a youth leader and outspoken critic of local political figures in Molo and Nakuru.
The murder occurred on the night of January 18, 2025.
Otieno, an aspiring ward representative for Molo Constituency, was killed outside his home in Elburgon, where he was reportedly hacked to death with an axe.
His tragic death sparked protests from outraged residents, who stormed the mortuary where his body was kept and marched in demand of justice.
The main suspects in the case are Geoffrey Mavado, John Ndegwa, and Jorim Ngonga Sura, who are believed to have played a direct role in the killing.
Two others, Clinton Simantu alias Muiruri and Peter Mwaniki alias Pinchez, both bodaboda operators, are accused of transporting the hitmen to and from the scene of the crime.

Interestingly, Mavado and Ndegwa were previously arrested on November 8, 2024, and charged with assaulting Otieno. The two were sentenced to one year of probation.
During the homicide investigation, forensic evidence has placed them at the crime scene, strengthening their connection to the murder.
The five suspects are currently in custody, awaiting arraignment, while investigators from the Homicide Directorate, Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau, and Operations continue to gather information and search for any additional suspects.
