In a surprise visit to the Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital (CGTRH) this morning, Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications and the Digital Economy William Kabogo applauded the hospital’s enhanced digital infrastructure.

The facility utilizes internet connectivity through the National Optic Fibre Network Backhaul Initiative (NOFBI), installed by the ICT Authority (ICTA) under the Ministry’s universal healthcare digitization program.

“Fast and reliable internet connection is pivotal for increasing access to information and ensuring a robust healthcare system,” said Cabinet Secretary Kabogo.
“This is part of the government’s broader commitment to availing stable internet in public facilities for improved healthcare outcomes and quality patient experiences,” he added.

Accompanied by the hospital’s CEO Dr. Iqbal Khandwalla, the CS toured the hospital and witnessed the enhanced connectivity that supports operations.

Dr. Khandwalla commended the initiative, stating, “This connectivity has greatly improved communication within the hospital, enhanced access to medical records, and strengthened overall service delivery.”

The Ministry reaffirmed its dedication to expanding digital access across the country, with public hospitals remaining a key priority in the journey towards a digitally empowered healthcare system.
