The family of murdered city lawyer Kyalo Mbobu is demanding that the police act quickly and ensure that those responsible for the killing are arrested and given the punishment they deserve.
On Tuesday, Mbobu, a 58-year-old advocate of the High Court of Kenya with 29 years of experience, was shot dead at Magadi Road, Nairobi, in a hail of bullets.
At their residence in Salama, Kilome Sub-County, Makueni County, the late lawyer’s mother, Anne Mbelete, lamented that the family is overwhelmed with grief and struggling to accept the violent death of their son. “He was not only a lawyer to us; he was a rock that loved his family with all his heart,” she said.
Investigators from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are following up on leads to solve the murder mystery. They promise the public that the perpetrators will be apprehended and allowed to face the law and call upon anyone with information to contact the nearest police station.
The killing has attracted outrage from all quarters, with the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) pledging to organize a demonstration on Friday to demand the safety of legal practitioners as well as the arrest of the murderers. LSK President Faith Odhiambo said that Mbobu was “a committed professional with outstanding legal proficiency who dedicated himself to serving his community.”
In his almost three-decade-long career, he was involved in numerous high-profile civil and criminal cases that brought him the respect of the Nairobi Bar.
The murder has revived the discussion surrounding the increasing violence in Nairobi, as staff, friends, and relatives ask for tighter security measures to guarantee the safety of both professionals and ordinary people.
