Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has called for the resignation of Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo following the attack on Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi in Kisumu.
According to Musyoka, Omollo has up to Friday morning to quit his position, failing which his counterpart President William Ruto must relieve him from office.
“Omollo must resign forthwith. We are giving him until tomorrow,” Musyoka stated during an interview on Thursday.
He further noted that the interior minister is known to have orchestrated the assault and should quit forthrightly.
However, other leaders from the opposition parties at the press briefing demanded the arrests of those involved.
“We are calling for swift arrests. They should be arrested,” said Saboti legislator Caleb Amisi.
Also, Siaya governor James Orengo pointed out that the investigation process has been slow.
“This case involves known suspects but no one has been arrested yet,” Orengo said in a statement.
On Wednesday afternoon, Senator Osotsi was attacked by several young people within a hotel in Kisumu. Video footage recorded shows the Senator being trapped and beaten before making attempts to run
He was later taken to Nairobi for treatment.
Osotsi allies have condemned the incident, terming it politically motivated and part of a wider pattern of attacks targeting those opposed to the government.
Embakasi East MP Babu Owino also blamed the Interior Ministry, saying such incidents should not be allowed to happen.
The attack has now raised fresh concerns over security and political tensions, with pressure mounting on authorities to act.
