Principal Secretary for Energy Charles Wachira has commended President William Ruto for his continued commitment to expanding access to reliable electricity across the country, noting that the Last Mile Electrification Program is transforming lives and powering Kenya’s economic growth.
Speaking during the official flagging-off of materials for the Nakuru Town East Constituency Last Mile Electrification Program, which was presided over by the President, PS Wachira said the initiative underscores the government’s dedication to ensuring that no Kenyan is left behind in the journey toward universal energy access.
“The government’s goal is to connect every household, business, and learning institution to the national grid. Electricity is not just about lighting homes—it’s about driving enterprise, industrialization, and social transformation,” said Wachira.
The program, part of a Ksh 2.6 billion investment, will connect over 22,000 new households and businesses to the national electricity grid, marking a significant milestone in Nakuru County’s electrification agenda.

President Ruto, who was joined by Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof. Kithure Kindiki and other national and county leaders, reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to expand access to affordable and sustainable energy as a cornerstone of Kenya’s development.
“Reliable electricity is key to improving the quality of life and unlocking economic opportunities for our people,” the President said.
