Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has denied reports that the government has reintroduced cut-off points for university admissions.
In a statement, Ogamba clarified that all 246,391 students who achieved a C+ and above in the 2024 KCSE exams are eligible for university admission under the current criteria.
“The government has not reintroduced cut-off points for university admission. The minimum requirement for the 2024 KCSE cohort is a mean grade of C+,” Ogamba said.
The CS also addressed concerns regarding funding, confirming that only Ksh25.85 billion is needed to support university education for the 2024 KCSE cohort, not the Ksh100 billion previously speculated.
He explained that the Ksh100 billion figure represents the total cost over a four-year period.
Additionally, Ogamba announced that the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) will open the university placement portal for the September 2025 intake in March.
