President William Ruto has underscored the importance of preserving Kenya’s diverse cultural heritage as a foundation for national unity, during the 5th Piny Luo Festival held at Senye Beach in Migori County.

Speaking at the vibrant festival, which featured traditional boat riding, wrestling, pot racing, and swimming, President Ruto said culture brings people together, strengthens community bonds, and fosters a united nation anchored in diversity and mutual respect.

“Preserving our rich and diverse cultural heritage is the foundation of unity. Guided by this spirit, we remain committed to uniting our country by rallying Kenyans around development priorities and transforming politics into an agenda-based system, free from tribalism, hatred, and division,” he said.

Later, at the historic Thimlich Ohinga site, President Ruto, alongside ODM Party Leader Hon. Oburu Odinga, was honored as a Luo elder.

The two leaders committed to supporting the establishment of a proper cultural center at Thimlich Ohinga to preserve history, promote tourism, and pass on the nation’s heritage to future generations.

The events highlighted the role of culture in fostering social cohesion while showcasing efforts to integrate heritage preservation with national development and tourism.
