EACC Arrests Kilifi Revenue Officer Over Bribery

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission has arrested a revenue officer from the Kilifi County Government over bribery and abuse of office.

The suspect, Sylvia Dhahabu Karisa, a Building Inspector attached to Approvals Section in Watamu Municipality, allegedly demanded a bribe of Kes435,000 from a complainant to facilitate the issuance of a construction approval letter.

The suspect allegedly demanded a total amount of Kes73,000 for the building of the wall, as well as another amount of Kes362,000 for the building of other structures. Upon receipt of the complaint by a member of the public on the 25th of March, 2026, the Commission carried out preliminary investigations and established that the amount of Kes400,000 as a bribe was allegedly demanded by a public officer.

She was taken to the EACC Upper Coast Regional Office in Malindi for further processing before being released on cash bail amounting to Kes20,000 pending further investigations at the Malindi Police Station.

The Commission warns public officers on the vice of corruption and reiterates its commitment to the eradication of the vice of bribery in the provision of services to ensure quality services are available to all members of the public.
