Chelsea have signed 19-year-old defender Mamadou Sarr from partner club Strasbourg in a £12 million deal.
The French youth international has agreed to an eight-year contract and will be eligible to feature in this month’s Club World Cup in the United States.
Enzo Maresca’s team will begin their campaign against LAFC on 16 June, followed by matches against Flamengo (20 June) and ES Tunis (25 June) in the group stage.
The agreement for Sarr was reached in January, with the move finalised this summer. He made 28 appearances across all competitions last season, helping Strasbourg secure 7th place in Ligue 1 and a spot in the UEFA Conference League play-offs.
This marks the first transfer between Chelsea and Strasbourg since both clubs came under the ownership of Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital via the BlueCo consortium.
Sarr is Chelsea’s fourth signing of the summer, joining Liam Delap (£30m, Ipswich Town), Estevão (£29m, Palmeiras), and Dário Essugo (£18m, Sporting Lisbon).
Meanwhile, Jadon Sancho has returned to Manchester United following the conclusion of his loan spell at Stamford Bridge.
