The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has officially confirmed Oburu Oginga as the party leader after serving in an acting capacity for five months.
The ratification took place during the party’s Special Delegates Conference on Friday, March 27, at Jamhuri Grounds in Nairobi, where delegates from across the country endorsed his leadership and expressed confidence in his ability to guide the party.
During the conference, Suna East MP Junet Mohamed formally announced the vote.
“Now that we have a proposer and a seconder. Let me ask the question. As many of that opinion say ‘Aye’ and as many of the contrary opinion say ‘No’, the Ayes have it. Now Senator Oburu Oginga is the party leader of ODM,” Junet said.
Oburu had overseen party operations in an interim capacity, maintaining unity and coordinating internal affairs during the transitional period.
The conference also ratified key deputies and officials. Mombasa Governor Abdullswamad Sheriff Nassir and Kisii Governor Simba Arati were approved as deputy party leaders, while Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga was confirmed as National Chairperson with Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo and Turkana South MP John Ariko Namoit as her deputies. However, Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi’s bid for a deputy position was rejected after delegates failed to provide a proposer and seconder, following his alignment with a breakaway ODM faction.
