Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has emphasized the government’s focus on practical, people-centered development over political rhetoric, stating that Kenya’s future depends on real change that touches the lives of ordinary citizens.

Speaking during an economic empowerment engagement in Kangundo Constituency, Machakos County, Kindiki announced the rollout of the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) programme.

The initiative is designed to stimulate grassroots entrepreneurship by injecting Sh50,000 into 70 small businesses in each of the country’s 1,450 wards. He noted that this direct financial boost will provide much-needed job and income opportunities, especially for the youth.

In his address, the Deputy President outlined ongoing efforts to transform Machakos County, including the construction of 15 modern markets such as those in Kangundo and Kivaani.

“Our country will not be built on slogans and empty rhetoric, but on tangible efforts to transform the lives of all Kenyans,” he said.

He said the government is investing Sh1.4 billion to connect 6,500 new homes to electricity in the county.

Kangundo Constituency alone will see an additional 600 households benefit from the last mile electricity connectivity programme. Kindiki further confirmed that the 13-kilometre Kangundo-Mwala Road will be upgraded to bitumen standard at a cost of Sh800 million, with work expected to begin immediately.

Accompanied by National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot, National Assembly Majority Whip Sylvanus Osoro, and a host of legislators and local leaders from Machakos and other counties, the Deputy President underscored the need for unity and commitment to service delivery across all levels of government.

He praised the collaborative efforts by both national and grassroots leaders, saying such unity is key to unlocking economic potential in rural areas and achieving the government’s vision for inclusive development.
