Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Monday, January 27, criticised President William Ruto’s Affordable Housing Programme, terming it a fraud targeting unsuspecting Kenyans.
Speaking during the unveiling of the new DAP-K Party headquarters, Gachagua sensationally claimed the housing program is a business venture from which some government officials and companies selling building materials profit.
"If the PS wants to build affordable housing, they must go and sign a sub-contract with a company selling cement, metal and iron sheets. In that company, the bigwigs of the country are part of that company," said Gachagua.
However, not so long ago, while still the holder of the Office of the Deputy President, Gachagua spoke so highly of the housing programme.
As captured in a video that is now circulating on social media, Gachagua praised President Ruto for the program, saying it would enable all Kenyans to own homes in the future.
The impeached DP was fulfilled by the project, saying that it had provided employment opportunities for thousands of Kenyan youth.
"The president has emphasised and taken up the responsibility to ensure that all Kenyans would be able to own homes. What is making us even more happy is that our youth will get jobs here," said Gachagua then.
Gachagua’s recent criticism of the project that he previously praised makes him a double-speak master.
