The Director DCI welcomed a delegation from the African Union Mechanism for Police Cooperation (AFRIPOL) and the German Federal Police at the DCI headquarters. Led by Afripol’s Head of Training and Capacity Building Department Dr. Benaired Mohamed as well as representatives from the German Embassy and the German Federal Police, the delegation is on a three-day fact-finding mission aimed at transforming the DCI’s National Forensic Lab; Cyber and Digital Forensic Lab into a centre of excellence in the Eastern Africa region.

Digital forensics plays a crucial role in contemporary policing, aiding in the identification of hidden networks, decrypting complex digital trails, and recovering vital evidence to bring criminals to justice.

However, the transnational nature of cybercrime presents significant challenges for jurisdictions worldwide in their efforts to prevent and combat these offences.

Consequently, fostering cooperative partnerships with international organisations is essential in addressing these issues effectively. The discussions focused on several areas of mutual concern, including collaboration in capacity building in the field of digital forensics, which will significantly contribute to counter-terrorism efforts, and tackling transnational organised crime.

This collaboration not only aims to strengthen the DCI’s skill set but also serves to build a united front against the rising tide of cyber threats and complex criminal activities that often transcend national borders.

By working together, agencies can enhance their ability to share information, resources, and best practices, ultimately leading to safer communities and improved justice outcomes across the region.
