Kenyans now have a simpler and more discreet way to report criminal activity, thanks to a new WhatsApp number launched by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
DCI Director Mohamed Amin announced on Tuesday, July 22, that members of the public can send crime-related information to 0709 570 000 through WhatsApp an option designed to offer a faster and anonymous tip-off method.
“We’re embracing technology so that we can keep up with how people communicate today, and by through this new channel will make it easier for the public to share valuable information with us confidentially and securely.”Amin said during a press briefing.
The WhatsApp line adds to the agency’s existing toll-free number, 0800 722 203, which remains active under the Fichua Kwa DCI initiative.
The campaign, managed from the DCI’s call centre in Nairobi, encourages Kenyans both locally and abroad to speak out against crime without fear of being exposed.
Amin recognized the Fichua platform for helping detectives crack high-profile cases in recent months and said the new WhatsApp alternative would further simplify access, especially for young, digitally savvy citizens.
“We must come together, work together as we all have a role to play in making our communities safe place.
