Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has said that leaders from the Mt Kenya East region are prepared to assert themselves and pursue their own political direction, citing years of marginalisation by their counterparts in Mt Kenya West.

Speaking during the Mt Kenya Leaders Caucus at Glee Hotel on Sunday, CS Ruku said the region is “ready to break away politically” if discrimination and unequal treatment by some leaders from Mt Kenya West continue.

Ruku emphasised that leaders and residents from Mt Kenya East fully back Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, insisting that he must be respected as a key regional and national figure.

He noted that the region has already begun mobilising support to ensure DP Kindiki is re-elected as President William Ruto’s deputy in the 2027 elections, and subsequently positioned as a presidential candidate in 2032.

“We are united behind our son Kithure Kindiki. He deserves respect, and we are committed to campaigning for him in 2027 and beyond. Our unity as Mt Kenya East is non-negotiable,” Ruku said.

The meeting, attended by senior leaders including CS Rebecca Miano and Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura, focused on strengthening Mt Kenya’s political voice and safeguarding the region’s development priorities ahead of the next election cycle.

Ruku urged leaders to embrace unity, warning that continued internal divisions would weaken the region’s bargaining power at the national level.
