Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has pledged that the upcoming National Police Service (NPS) recruitment exercise will be conducted with integrity and free from corruption.
While addressing residents in Kisumu County, Murkomen emphasized the government’s determination to ensure that the recruitment process is fair and merit-based, allowing only qualified and deserving individuals to join the police ranks.
“We want to give opportunities to those who truly deserve them. From the outset, this process must be about merit and not money,” Murkomen stated.
He disclosed that Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and members of the National Police Service Commission (NPSC) are currently in talks to finalize a regulatory framework that will govern the exercise.
“The NPS and the Commission are in consultation, and we expect clear guidelines soon. I’ve received some briefings, but I won’t pre-empt their decisions,” he added.
Acknowledging that corruption has plagued past recruitment exercises, Murkomen underlined the need for a clean break from the past.
He also cited ongoing public engagement forums, known as Jukwaa la Usalama, as part of broader reforms aimed at rebuilding public trust and tackling entrenched corruption within the police service.
