Cabinet Secretary for Water, Sanitation and Irrigation, Eng. Eric Mugaa, on Tuesday met with top officials from key water agencies to review progress on major water and sanitation projects in Nairobi.
The meeting, held at Maji House in Nairobi, brought together Eng. Joseph Kamau, CEO of Athi Water Works Development Agency, and Eng. Julius Mugun, acting CEO of the National Water Harvesting and Storage Authority. Water Secretary Eng. SAO Alima also attended.
Officials discussed ongoing and planned projects aimed at addressing Nairobi’s water deficit, currently estimated at about 280,000 cubic meters per day, and improving sanitation services across the city.
Among the key projects discussed were the proposed Maragua Dam, Ruiru II Dam, the Kiambu Bulk Water Carrier, and initiatives to upgrade sewerage systems.
The agencies also updated CS Mugaa on progress by the Kenya Revenue Authority in collecting revenues for bulk water supplies.
CS Mugaa stressed the importance of fast-tracking these projects to ensure residents of Nairobi have reliable access to clean water and improved sanitation services.
