Health Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale has cautioned the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) against licensing unqualified or non-compliant health facilities, warning that any officer found engaging in malpractice will face disciplinary action.
“It will not be business as usual,” said Duale during his first official visit to the KMPDC offices in Nairobi. He urged the Council to uphold integrity, transparency, and public service, as outlined in Section 33(2) of the 2023 Social Health Insurance Act.
The CS emphasized KMPDC’s critical role in ensuring access to safe and quality healthcare for all Kenyans, regardless of age or income.
He called for efficient service delivery, unity of purpose, and responsible use of public resources to advance the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) agenda.
Duale pledged the Ministry’s support for KMPDC through legislative reforms, resource mobilization, and better coordination with counties and professional bodies.
He also highlighted the work of the Ministry’s Digital Health Agency in identifying and eliminating unqualified practitioners to protect Kenyans from substandard care.
Medical Services Principal Secretary Dr. Ouma Oluga called for a robust professional competency framework, while Public Health PS Ms. Mary Muthoni and Director General for Health Dr. Patrick Amoth echoed the need for high standards in service delivery.
The meeting was also attended by KMPDC CEO Dr. David Kariuki, Chair Prof. Stanley Khainga, and other senior officials.
