Olympic bronze medalist Faith Cherotich delivered a dominant performance to claim her third Diamond League victory of the season, clocking a world-leading and personal best time of 8:53.37 in the 3,000m steeplechase at the Meeting de Paris on Friday night.
Uganda’s former Olympic champion Peruth Chemutai took second in 8:54.41, while Ethiopia’s Sembo Alemayew finished a distant third in 9:01.22.
In the women’s 1500m, Nelly Chepchirchir claimed victory in a season-best 3:57.02, edging out Sarah Healy of Ireland (3:57.15) and Ethiopia’s Birke Haylom (3:57.50). Kenyan Olympian Susan Ejore placed 8th.
In a non-Diamond League 1500m race, Phanuel Kipkosgei Koech impressed with a new World U20 Record of 3:27.72, finishing second behind France’s Azzedine Habz.
Two-time Commonwealth champion Wycliff Kinyamal struggled in the men’s 800m, placing 11th in a race won by Spain’s Mohamed Attaoui in 1:42.73.
Kenyan men underperformed in the 5000m, with former world silver medalist Jacob Krop finishing 12th and Boaz Kiprugut failing to finish. Ethiopia’s Yomif Kejelcha won the race in 12:47.84.
In the javelin, former Olympic silver medalist Julius Yego placed 6th with a throw of 80.26m. Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra of India took the win with an impressive 88.16m.
The 9th stop of the Diamond League series will take place on July 5 in Eugene, USA.
