Cristiano Ronaldo has sparked speculation about his future after sharing a cryptic message on social media, suggesting his time at Al-Nassr may be coming to an end.

The 40-year-old Portuguese star, who joined the Saudi Arabian club in January 2023, is set to become a free agent when his contract expires next month.

He scored the opening goal — his 800th in club football — in Al-Nassr’s final match of the season, a 3-2 loss to Al-Fateh, which saw the team finish third in the Saudi Pro League.

Following the match, Ronaldo posted: “This chapter is over. The story? Still being written. Grateful to all.”

The ambiguous message has fueled rumors about his next move. One possibility includes a surprise appearance at the FIFA Club World Cup next month.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino recently suggested that Ronaldo could still feature in the tournament, despite Al-Nassr failing to qualify.

“Ronaldo might play for one of the teams as well at the Club World Cup,” Infantino said.
“There are discussions with some clubs, so if any club is watching and is interested in hiring Ronaldo for the Club World Cup… who knows?”

Given Ronaldo’s enormous wage demands—he became the highest-paid footballer in history upon signing with Al-Nassr on a deal reportedly worth £177 million per year—only a few clubs globally could realistically afford him. However, reports suggest he may be open to a short-term deal to participate in the Club World Cup before reassessing his long-term plans.

Spanish newspaper Marca recently reported that a club from Brazil has submitted an offer for Ronaldo.

Among the Brazilian sides linked to him is Botafogo, one of four teams from the country set to compete at the Club World Cup.

As the football world watches closely, Ronaldo’s next chapter remains uncertain—but clearly, the story is far from over.
