Investigation into the alleged abduction and torture of Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi has taken a new twist, pointing to a possible staged kidnapping.

In a statement, the National Police Service said that they visited the alleged scene, a coffee farm, where the lawmaker was captured in an amateur video writhing in pain after being dumped by the supposed abductors.

The coffee farm belongs to politician Jimmy Wanjigi. However, after analysing the amateur video of the MP and comparing the vegetation and road dimensions at the scene with those in the clip, police said that the two did not match.

To add a twist to the occurrence, the officers said, Moses Kariuki, the caretaker of the coffee farm, stated that he had not seen any abductors or witnessed the incident.

From the farm, the officers proceeded to Plainview Hospital in Ruiru, where the Member of Parliament had reportedly been taken for treatment.

They confirmed that the vehicle used to transport him, registration number KCJ 660P belonged to Koimburi and was driven by Frida Njeri, who was also the first responder at the alleged crime scene.

The hospital did not disclose the nature of the treatment or first aid administered, making it difficult for the police to assess the extent of the alleged injuries.
