Ruth Jepchumba Bundotich, the coach behind women’s 10km world record holder Agnes Ng’etich, has earned global recognition after being named the 2025 World Athletics Woman of the Year.

The prestigious honour celebrates individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the sport, particularly in promoting opportunities for women and girls.

Bundotich has played a pivotal role in shaping Ng’etich into one of the most formidable road runners of her generation.

Ng’etich currently holds the world 10km record with a blistering 28:46 set in Valencia in 2024 and is the second-fastest woman in history over the half marathon, boasting an impressive 1:03:04.

In a statement, World Athletics confirmed Bundotich as the 2025 Woman of the Year, noting her lasting impact in mentoring elite athletes and nurturing young talent.

“Through her work with the Ikaika Sports Agency and Adidas Running, she has helped create a sustainable and supportive pathway for emerging talents, ensuring young athletes, particularly girls, are empowered both on and off the track,” the statement read.

Among her most notable protégés is world 10km record holder Agnes Ng’etich.
