The National Police Service (NPS) has confirmed the tragic killing of Reverend Father Allois Cheruiyot Bett of St. Matthias Mulumba Tot Parish, who was fatally shot by armed assailants in Kabartile Village, Elgeyo Marakwet County.
According to a statement issued by NPS Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga, the incident took place in Mokoro Location, Kakiptul Sub-Location, and prompted an immediate response by officers from the General Service Unit (GSU).
A swift manhunt led to the arrest of six suspects, who are currently in custody as investigations continue.Preliminary findings indicate that the shooting was not related to cattle rustling or banditry, which have been prevalent in the region in recent months. The motive behind the attack remains under investigation.
The police have condemned the act as heinous and assured the public that thorough and expedited investigations are underway to ensure all perpetrators are brought to justice.”We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Father Allois Cheruiyot Bett, and to the parishioners of St. Matthias Mulumba Tot Parish,” the statement read.
